Plant Family: Flacourtiaceae.
A medium tree growing to 25 m.
Natural habitat warm-temperate, from south-eastern New South Wales to Cape York.
Perfumed white flowers in spring, Fruit goes through a range of colour's from green, yellow, orange, red and then black in Summer.
Keep well watered and fertilised in good quality soil, will produce new growth most of the year.
Likes dappled sun to shade.
A very hardy tree, It's not fast-growing but makes up for this by being adaptable for all conditions and soil types. A good tree for coppicing.
Host plant for the Eastern Flat and (Australian) Rustic butterfly which lays it's eggs on spiders' webs, when hatched the caterpillars abseil down to the tree. Once established, the butterflies will remain throughout the year.
